WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Head coach King Rice announced the signings of guard Deion Hammond and guard Marcus McClary on Wednesday to join the program in the fall of 2017. Hammond is a 6’4” guard from Riverdale Baptist School and hails from Mitchellville, MD while McClary is a 6’3” guard from Linden, NJ and The Patrick School.
“We’re extremely excited to have Deion and Marcus join our program,” said Rice. “Both guys are players with a lot of talent that can help us moving forward.”
Hammond enters his senior season at Riverdale Baptist after a being named Second Team All-Conference as a junior, doing so after averaging 12.8 points per game and shooting 85% from the foul line. He helped the Crusaders to a 26-13 mark and a league runner-up finish after a 24-15 season as a sophomore. In that 2014-15 season, Hammond was an All-Conference Honorable Mention and averaged 10 points per game.
“Deion Hammond is a big time talent,” added Rice. “He’s can shoot it from the perimeter, he’s really athletic and can get to the basket and attack the rim very well.”
McClary comes south from one of the top programs in New Jersey at The Patrick School. He scored 184 points as a junior in 25 games for the Celtics, and helped them to county championships as a freshman and a sophomore. He has knocked down 42 triples in his career, and has been an impact player on one of the top teams in the state.
“Marcus McClary is a do-it-all type of player who can defend multiple positions, score, and rebound,” said Rice. “He brings a lot to the table so were really excited to have him join the program.”
The 2016-17 Hawks open the season on Friday night at the OceanFirst Bank Center on ESPN3 at 7:00 p.m.
