EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 2016-17 men’s and women’s basketball television schedule will feature 51 nationally televised games on ESPN networks, which include 38 contests during the regular season and 13 contests at the 2017 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.
The schedule features some of the MAAC’s premiere rivalry matchups, and culminates with 15 televised games at the MAAC Basketball Championships on March 2-6. The MAAC Women’s Championship Game will be televised on ESPNU on March 6 at 5:00 p.m., and the Men’s Championship Game will be televised later that night at 9:00 p.m., on ESPN/2.
Live coverage for the season begins on Thursday, Jan. 5 with a doubleheader hosted by Manhattan College at Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY. The action kicks off with a women’s basketball contest with Rider University taking on the Jaspers at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN3, followed by the men’s basketball team welcoming Fairfield University for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off on ESPN3.
Regular season matchups for the men include a rematch of the 2015-16 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game when the defending champions, Iona College head to West Long Branch, NJ to take on Monmouth University on Friday, Jan 6 for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off on ESPNU/3. Saint Peter’s University hosts Siena College on Thursday, Jan. 19 on ESPN3 at 8:00 p.m. at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, NJ. On Friday, Jan. 27 Monmouth University plays Quinnipiac University on ESPNU/3 at 7:00 p.m. The “Battle of the Bridge” takes place on Friday, Feb. 10 as part of a doubleheader between Canisius College and Niagara University. Tip-off for the men’s game is slated for 9:00 p.m. on ESPNU/3. Also on that day, Manhattan College faces Monmouth University on ESPNU/3 at 9:00 p.m. On Friday, Feb.24 Monmouth University plays Siena College at 9:00 p.m. on ESPNU/2. On the final day of the regular season, Marist College plays Siena College in Loudonville, NY and Iona College faces Monmouth University. Both games are slated for 4:00 p.m. on ESPN3.
The women’s basketball schedule includes Siena College hosting Monmouth University on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN3. Two hOURglass rivals meet on Thursday, Jan. 19 when Saint Peter’s University welcomes the Rider University Broncs for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off at the Yanitelli Center. On Jan. 26, the defending MAAC Women’s Basketball Champions, Iona College head to Poughkeepsie, New York to take on the 10-time MAAC Champions, Marist College for a 5:30 p.m. contest on ESPN3 at the McCann Center. Connecticut rivals, Quinnipiac University and Fairfield University square off on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN3 at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. The “Battle of the Bridge” will air Friday, Feb 10. on ESPN3 at 6:00 p.m. when Niagara University battles their Western, New York rival Canisius College at the Koessler Athletic Center. The 2015-16 MAAC Championship Game rematch between Quinnipiac University and Iona College will air on ESPNU on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5:00 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut. Siena College will play Iona College on ESPN3 at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 to conclude the regular season.
The MAAC telecast schedule will also feature 10 netflex games during the 2016-17 season. The netflex format allows ESPN to pick any game on schedule for the selected date to air on the designated platform (ESPN2, ESPNU, or ESPN3). ESPN will announce which game has been selected for the wildcard telecast 21 days out. The format enables the MAAC and ESPN flexibility to showcase the best possible matchups. This season’s netflex dates will be January 6 & 27 and February 3, 10 & 24.
Of the 51 game slate, 40 will be on ESPN3, nine will air on ESPNU including the women’s championship title game, one regular season game will be on ESPN2, and the men’s tournament championship game will air on ESPN/2. There will be 36 men’s games and 15 women’s games on ESPN networks.
