NEW YORK – Following a 2-0 week, three Xavier men’s soccer players were tabbed for a BIG EAST weekly honor. Fresh off a pair of shutouts, Cory Brown was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Colin Hanley earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Senior Jalen Brown was also awarded a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Cory Brown, a Nelson, New Zealand native, tallied a game-winner in the 19th minute at Cleveland State on Tuesday, leading XU to a 1-0 win. Brown’s goal was his first of the season and, with the score, he became the eighth Musketeer to supply a goal in 2016. On Saturday, he played a central role in another shut out as the Musketeers handed St. John’s its first BIG EAST loss of the season. Adding two shutouts last week, Brown and the Musketeers have now recorded four clean sheets in five matches.
Minding the net in those shutouts was Hanley, who made 11 saves and added to an impressive resume since becoming the team’s full-time starter. The Mandeville, La. native has recorded four shutouts – including three in BIG EAST play – and has a 0.66 goals against average on the season. In BIG EAST action, Hanley’s GAA is a miniscule 0.49.
Jalen Brown, an Indianapolis, Ind. native, was tabbed to the honor roll after a three-point week. He assisted on Cory Brown’s game-winner on Tuesday and then provided an insurance goal against St. John’s on Saturday. The senior leads XU with 11 points (4 G, 3 A) on the year.

CINCINNATI – Junior defender Cory Brown was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday, marking the first time a Xavier player has earned a national honor in 2016.
