Canisius head men’s basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon announced that Martin Dixon-Green has officially joined the Golden Griffins’ roster for the 2016-17 season.
Dixon-Green is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound shooting guard from Toronto, Ontario. Dixon-Green, who was rated as the seventh-best shooting guard in Canada among the Class of 2012, started his collegiate career at Indian Hills Community College in 2012-13. He then transferred to Laramie County Community College for the 2013-14 campaign. While at LCCC, he suffered an illness that has kept him off the court for the last two seasons. He will have one year of eligibility remaining. Canisius plans to pursue an extension of eligibility waiver with the NCAA at the end of the season, based on Dixon-Green’s previous medical history.
“Martin has demonstrated an intense desire to compete at the Division I level and he will do that representing Canisius College,” Witherspoon said. “The timing of this has worked out that we have a scholarship available, and we are happy to give him this opportunity. We are glad to have him here and we look forward to him being a Golden Griffin.”
Dixon-Green returned to Indian Hills for the 2015-16 academic year, where he completed his associate’s degree work this past August.
With this addition to the roster, Canisius will start the 2016-17 season with five Canadian-born players. The Griffs will open the 113th season in program history on Sunday, Nov. 13, when the Blue and Gold travels to play at Kentucky.
