Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball has announced its 2016-17 schedule as the Atlantic 10 released its conference slate today, which boasts a league-record number of television appearances (208). The Hawks will have a minimum of 16 games televised this year, as 15 of their 18 A-10 games will be broadcast by one of the league’s media partners.
Every Atlantic 10 institution will make at least eight appearances on national television through the league’s four media partners: ESPN, CBS Sports Network, NBCSN and the American Sports Network (ASN). This marks the first time in A-10 history that over two-thirds of conference games (87 of 126) will air on national television. In addition to the conference games, there will be eight televised non-conference games as part of the A-10 package.
The Hawks will begin conference play at home on December 30 and raise the banner for their second Atlantic 10 championship in three years when they host George Washington. SJU opens the New Year on the road, facing Rhode Island on January 3 on the CBS Sports Network and Fordham on January 7 on the NBC Sports Network.
Saint Joseph’s returns home for a pair of league games against George Mason on January 10, which will be carried on the American Sports Network and its affiliates, and Richmond on January 14, again on NBCSN. After a January 18 contest at Massachusetts on ASN, Saint Joseph’s takes its customary break from conference play to face Penn at The Palestra on January 21, in a designated “home” game for SJU.
The Hawks will begin a string of eight straight televised games on January 24 with a road trip to St. Bonaventure. SJU then returns home for three consecutive contests on ASN – versus La Salle on January 28, against Davidson on January 31 and versus Fordham on February 4.
SJU will visit 2016 NCAA Tournament team Dayton on February 7 for an ASN telecast before returning home to face Massachusetts on February 11, with the broadcast on NBCSN. The Hawks then travel to VCU, last year’s A-10 Championship game opponent, for a CBSSN telecast on February 14. The Hawks will visit local rival La Salle on February 18 for both an A-10 and Philadelphia Big 5 matchup on CBSSN.
Saint Joseph’s returns home on February 22 to face St. Bonaventure before heading to Saint Louis on February 25, with the game televised on NBCSN. The Hawks will host Rhode Island in the final home game of year on March 1 (ASN) before closing out the regular season at Duquesne on March 4.
The Hawks return to Pittsburgh later that week as the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship moves to a new venue this year, the CONSOL Energy Center. All 13 games of the tournament will be nationally televised. ASN will air the opening round games on March 8 and NBCSN will carry the second round and the quarterfinals, March 9-10. CBS Sports Network will air the semifinal games on March 11 while CBS Sports will broadcast the final on March 12 on network television for the eighth straight year as part of the network’s annual Selection Sunday coverage.
SJU’s non-conference schedule was previously announced, with the season opener set for November 12 against Toledo. Among the highlights of the 2016-17 are the Hawks’ participation in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas (Nov. 18-21), a home game with Temple on November 30 that will be televised on CBSSN, and a visit to defending NCAA champion and Big 5 rival Villanova on December 3.
Season tickets go on sale on September 23, with single-game tickets going on sale on October 13 online at SJUHawks.com/tix.
Additional regional and local coverage for SJU, as well as all game times, will be released at a later date.
