ROME, N.Y. – After finishing the 2015 season with only 10 wins, the Sherrill Silversmiths almost doubled their win total one year later beating the Rome Generals 9-7 in the New York Collegiate Baseball League regular season finale at Delutis Field Sunday night.
The Silversmiths scored at least one run in five straight innings from the second to the sixth; they never trailed once during the game.
Michael Palos (University of California-San Diego), Phillip Jasak (Le Moyne College) and Michael Villa (Lackawanna College) all had three-hit games for Sherrill and went a combined 9-for-16 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs.
Rome did not let up scoring runs in final two innings, but it was too little too late. Five separate players tallied an RBI for the Generals.
Garrett Woods (College of the Ozarks) earned his second win of the season. The six-foot senior out of Republic, Missouri, struck out five in seven innings without walking a batter.
After pitching out of the bullpen all season, David Erosa (Adrian College) suffered a loss in his first start. The 6-foot-5 sophomore from Irvington, New York, surrendered five runs off of eight hits in four innings of work.
Sherrill ended the season 19-27.
Rome finished its inaugural season in the NYCBL 18-28.
