OLEAN, N.Y. — In a rare New York Collegiate Baseball League pitcher’s duel, the Olean Oilers scored three runs in the ninth to walk off with a 4-2 victory over the Hornell Dodgers at Bradner Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Ned Monthie (Houghton) and Adam Rigney (Nichols) engaged in a pitchers duel most of the day. The Oilers got on the board in the fifth when Kaden Darrow (Marymount) collected a bad hop two-out single.
The game remained 1-0 until the eighth when the Dodgers were able to plate a couple runs on a two-run pinch-hit double by John Ricotta (Monroe CC). Ricotta’s double scored Adam Fitzgibbon (Saginaw Valley) who had singled and Connor Brandon (Concordia Chicago) who drew a walk.
The Oilers rallied in the ninth with three consecutive hits. Mark Koloszvary (Florida) led off with a double down the left field line and David Yanni (Pittsburgh) followed with a single to right. Koloszary stopped at third but scored when the throw took a high hop over the catchers head. Matt Schneider (Mercyhurst) sent the home crowd happy four pitches later when he lifted a homer over the left center fence.
Rigney tossed seven scoreless innings allowing just four his while walking one and striking out one. Eddie Demurs (Florida) earned the win by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Monthie took the tough luck loss. He allowed 10 hits and three runs in eight innings of work while walking two and striking out one.
Tanner Klein (Mansfield) was the lone Dodger with multiple hits finishing 2-for-4.
Alex Griffith (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 while Yanni and Aaron Phillips (St. Bonaventure) were each 2-for-4 for Olean.
The Oilers are now 36-5 on the year while the Dodgers fall to 19-21.
