HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Billy Griffin (Washington College) took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and the Olean Oilers defeated the Genesee Rapids, 8-0 for a New York Collegiate Baseball League-record 15th consecutive win.
Griffin struck out eight and walked four. He allowed one hit over 7.1 innings pitched.
The Oilers’ bats showed up early against the Rapids. Cole Peterson (St Bonaventure) and David “Bubba” Hollins (St. Bonaventure) slammed back-to-back one-out doubles in the first. Aaron Phillips (St. Bonaventure) cleared the bases with a triple to clear the bases, and the Rapids trailed 2-0 before stepping to the plate.
Olean continued tacking on hits in the second inning starting with a triple from Dave Vaccaro (St. Bonaventure). Evan Ryan (St. John Fisher) knocked a single to center field to bring Vaccaro home. Ryan advanced to second on a stolen base and scored on a Samuel Kysor (Lock Haven) double making it a 4-0 game .
The Rapids defense slowed the pace of the Oilers offense in the third and the fourth which both resulted in three-up, three-down finishes.

Olean responded to two scoreless innings with three runs on four hits in the fifth. The hits came from Peterson, Hollins, and David Yanni (Pittsburgh) making the score 7-0.
The Oilers scored their final run in the eighth inning after Kysor recorded a triple and Peterson brought him in on an RBI single.
The game finished after eight innings of play due to weather.
Chris Dipilat0 (Nichols) worked a scoreless two-thirds in relief.
Genesee will travel to Wellsville on Friday to take on the Nitros at 7:00 PM.
The Oilers will host the Rochester Ridgemen on Thursday at Bradner Stadium for a 7:00 PM start.
