SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Middle-inning madness spelled doom for the Syracuse Salt Cats as the Cortland Crush continued their winning streak Tuesday night. The Crush smacked the Salt Cats, 12-4 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Onondaga Community College. Nine runs were plated in the fourth and fifth innings by Cortland.
“The atmosphere is contagious; when one guy gets a hit, another guy wants to get a hit, and another guy wants to get a hit,” said Cortland Crush Manager, Bill McConnell.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, the Crush loaded the bases and Andrew Taft (University of Buffalo) emptied them with a three-run triple. Taft came in to score on a Greg Mula (Samford University) RBI single for the fourth run of the inning.
In the following inning, every Cortland batter stepped to the plate and the Crush scored five runs on four hits.
“When you start piecing hits together like that the dugout gets rolling,” said McConnell.
The Crush have now won 10 games in a row after dropping their first game of the season to the Sherrill Silversmiths. The Salt Cats are now 2-3 in their last five games after starting the season, 5-1.
The two teams face off again tomorrow at the Onondaga Community College at 7:00pm.
