The state’s finest will come together for three days when the 2016 New York State Games open on Monday, June 27th. Prep Baseball Report’s highly anticipated event features New York State’s top high school baseball talent in a round-robin tournament.
Beginning with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Defensive Showcase at Monroe Community College (MCC), Monday morning and ending at the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.), the NYS Games features 20 games among 10 teams with players from Long Island to Buffalo to Watertown and all points in between.
Games begin Monday at noon on MCC’s Tribune Field when Hudson Valley faces Capital Region. The contest will be the first of six on opening day concluding with a double header under the lights at Geneva’s Historic McDonough Park featuring Allegany meeting Downstate in the opener and Hudson Valley clashing with Niagara in the night cap.
Tuesday opens with the Wegmans Offensive Showcase at Tribune Field before the teams square off for nine more games with action continuing at R.I.T., St. John Fisher’s Dugan Yard and back to Geneva for the end the day.
Hudson Valley and Downstate will close out the event Wednesday at R.I.T..
More than 200 players and coaches will convene Sunday, June 26th for a meet and greet at the Double Tree in Henrietta, New York. Two guest speakers will address the group after Prep Baseball Report’s Dan Cevette gives the opening remarks.
Easton will award a bat to a Player of the Game for each contest over the three days.
Prep Baseball Report partnered with All State, Carubba Collision, The Distillery, Fusion Digital as well as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Double Tree, Easton and Wegmans to bring together this event.
McDonough Park opened in 1958 and was the home to the Geneva Red Legs and Geneva Cubs for more than three decades. Summer collegiate teams have played at the stadium for the last 20 years.
