Xavier wins 2016 Big East Championship

ABERDEEN, Md. – Xavier won the 2016 BIG EAST Championship for the second time in three years on Sunday at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

The Musketeers won 8-7, improving to 30-28 overall and winning for the 16th time in 18 games.

Senior Dan Rizzie put up a career-high 5-for-5 line, recording two RBI and scoring a run on his way to MOP honors. Xavier also did serious damage in the fourth inning, getting a pair of two-run homers from sophomore Rylan Bannon and junior Joe Gellenbeck.

Freshman Trey Schramm picked up the win in relief, improving to 3-0 with 3.2 innings of one-run relief.

Garrett Schilling saved his 13th game, getting the last four outs and moving into second in Xavier single season history.
