Saint Joseph’s senior Isaiah Miles has been invited to the NBA Draft Combine, which will be held in Chicago from May 11-15. He becomes the first Hawk to earn the invite since Delonte West in 2004.
Miles is coming off a breakout season in which he was one of the most improved players in the nation. He recently participated in the Portsmouth Invitational Touranment and earned All-Tournament honors there.
Hawks’ junior DeAndre’ Bembry declared his intentions for the NBA Draft and closed out his SJU career after being named the Player of the Year in the Atlantic 10 and the Big 5. Bembry is hopeful of receiving an invitation to the Combine, as the NBA will issue more invitations beginning on May 1.
Miles put together a career-best season and was the leading scorer (18.1 per game) and rebounder (8.1) for the Atlantic 10 Champion Hawks. He became one of the most improved players in the nation posting numbers that were an increase of seven points and three rebounds from his junior year. He was recognized with the Most Improved Player Awards by both the Atlantic 10 and the Big 5 and was named Saint Joseph’s Co-MVP, sharing the honor with Bembry.
The 6-8 forward from Baltimore, Md., was a first-time honoree to the All-Big 5 and All-Atlantic 10 teams, as well as the NABC All-District 4 first team, and was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Miles scored double figures in 35 consecutive games and posted 10 double-doubles and 11 games with 20 or more points as Saint Joseph’s went 28-8, to record the second most victories in school history. He also connected on the game-winning three-pointer as Saint Joseph’s defeated Cincinnati in the NCAA First Round.
Miles finished his career with 1,097 points after scoring 653 this season, which is the fourth highest total in school history. He now holds the SJU record for career free-throw percentage with 84.0 percent after converting 88.8 percent this season, which ranked as ninth best in the nation.
