Bronx, N.Y. — Fordham University men’s basketball head coach Jeff Neubauer announced the signing of Perris Hicks (Pasadena, Calif./Blair (San Bernardino Valley College), Chuba Ohams (Bronx, N.Y./Wadleigh) and Papi Ndiaye (Winston-Salem, N.C./Quality Education Academy) to National Letters of Intent for the 2016-2017 season.
Hicks, a 6’1”, 180-pound guard, just completed his second year at San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino, California, where he average 17.1 points, five assists and 3.3 rebounds per game to lead the Wolverines to a share of the Foothill Conference title, earning conference Co-MVP honors. He ranked second in the conference with 151 assists and 43 steals. Hicks scored in double figures in 28 of the 30 games he appeared in, including a 41-point effort at Victor Valley when he shot 16-for-24 from the field. Overall, he shot 48.4 percent from the field, including 40.3 from behind the arc (73-181), and 82.6 percent from the free throw stripe (109-132).
A graduate of Blair High School in Pasadena, California, Hicks was named Second Team All-Area by the Pasadena Star-News as a senior in 2012-2013. He had offers from Middle Tennessee State, UTEP, Colorado State and Loyola-Chicago.
“Perris Hicks is a terrific young man who has continually improved throughout his career. He is exactly the type of teammate that we are trying to fill our locker room with as we go forward,” said Neubauer.
Ohams, a 6’7” wing, is a product of Wadleigh High School in Harlem where he averaged 21.7 ppg as a senior in 2014-2015. He was named co-MVP of the 2015 Nate Blue Showcase as he sparked his White Team to an 100-76 victory with a game-high 22 points for the winners.
Last year, Ohams played at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut before transferring to Coastal Academy in New Jersey. He had offers from VCU, DePaul, Rutgers and Providence.
“Chuba is a young man who continues to improve as a player. His attitude towards improvement is what could give him the opportunity to compete at a very high level in the Atlantic 10 in the future,” said Neubauer.
A 6’9”, 225-pound forward, Ndiaye is currently finishing his senior year at Quality Education Academy in North Carolina where he led the Fighting Pharaohs to a 20-5 record in 2015-2016. A native of Senegal, Ndiaye moved to the U.S. prior to his freshman year of high school. He was a four-year letter man at Quality Education Academy and had offers from Washington State, Mississippi State and Charlotte.
“Papi Ndiaye has played for one of the most successful high school programs in the country. He has been very well coached and will continue to improve as he gets healthy,” said Neubauer.
The Rams closed out the 2015-2016 season with a 17-14 record, 8-10 in the Atlantic 10, and appeared in the 2016 CIT, Fordham’s first postseason appearance since 1992. The 17 wins were the most since 2006-2007 while the eight conference wins were the most since 2006-2007. The Rams went 14-5 in the Rose Hill Gym, the most home wins ever in school history.
