ALBANY, NY – The third quarterfinal matchup of the 2016 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship saw the number three seeded, Siena College Saints defeat sixth seeded Manhattan College, 89-76, in front of a raucous crowd at the Times Union Center.
All-MAAC First Team Selection Brett Bisping was the Pepsi Player of the Game in this win for the Siena Saints. Bisping had 22 points on six-for-12 shooting. He secured 16 rebounds to record a double-double. Lavon Long filled up the stat sheet, scoring 17 points, securing eight rebounds, and dished out five assists. Javion Ogunyemi, the 2016 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year scored 16 points and had five blocks. Marquis Wright distributed the ball effectively with a game-high eight assists.
Siena College went 35-for-45 from the free-throw line. The 35 makes from the charity stripe is tied for the third most in MAAC Championship history.
Manhattan College was led by four Jaspers who scored in double-digits. Rich Williams had a game-high 26 points on nine-of-15 shooting. Tyler Wilson posted 14 points. All-MAAC First Team member Shane Richards scored 12 points. Calvin Crawford added 11 points
Siena College now moves onto the MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship semifinal to take on two seeded Iona College, which takes place on Sunday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3.
The 2016 MAAC Men’s Championship title game will take place on Monday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. and will air live onESPN with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
