English and Seaborn garner third MAAC weekly honors

A.J. English, Iona

Senior A.J. English led Iona in scoring in a pair of MAAC wins this week, at home vs. Quinnipiac on Monday and on the road at MAAC-leading Monmouth Friday night snapping the Hawks nine-game overall winning streak and nine-game home court winning streak. English averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks while connecting on eight three-pointers in the Gaels two victories. He shot 46.7% from the field, 42.1% from long distance and 91.7% (11-for-12) from the free throw line. He began the week with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists in the 18-point win over the Bobcats Monday with all 16 points caming in the second half. At Monmouth, English had his fifth 30+ point effort of the season and 12th of his career, moving him into a tie for second place with Steve Burtt ’06 for most all-time at Iona. English added seven rebounds and five assists for his second 25+ point, 5+ rebound, 5+ assist effort of the season and second in the last three games. With the performance, English is the only NCAA Division I performer to average 20 or more points, five or more rebounds and five or more assists. Only 13 players have recorded 30 or more in a game in the MAAC this season. English leads with five instances, two more than Marist’s Khallid Hart and Fairfield’s Marcus Gilbert.

 

Rookie of the Week

Micah Seaborn, Monmouth

R-Fr., G, 6-5, 190, Arlington, TX/Prime Prep Academy

 

Seaborn averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in three contest for the Hawks last week. Seaborn topped a career-high with 26 points in the win over Saint Peter’s, hitting 8-of-17 from the field and three triples. He was 7-7 from the line in that game and 10-for-10 on the week in two MAAC wins, shooting 45.7% from the floor, 47.1% from deep and was perfect from the line. Seaborn had 22 in the win over Manhattan on 8-13 FG, and totaled 15 rebounds, six assists and six steals on the week.
