NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fordham junior Danielle Burns was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Dayton freshman Lauren Cannatelli earned the league’s Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday for games played Feb. 1-7.
Burns scored a career-high 31 points, including 18 in the second half, as Fordham defeated George Washington, 76-69, on Wednesday. Burns followed with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists in a win against UMass on Saturday. For the week, the Gainsville, Va., native averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists on 15-of-22 (.682) shooting from the field and 4-of-7 (.571) from beyond the arc.
Cannatelli posted her fourth game of 20 or more points in the last six games for the Flyers in a 67-53 victory over Rhode Island. The Cincinnati, Ohio native, scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of 14 (.500) shooting and was 6-of-10 (.600) from 3-point range. She also recorded four assists and a steal for the Flyers, who have won four consecutive games.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
Saicha Grant-Allen scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in Dayton’s 67-53 victory over Rhode Island … Duquesne’s Deva’Nyar Workmanrecorded a pair of double-doubles in wins over UMass and Davidson last week. She averaged 14.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists and shot 12-of-22 (.545) from the field … Duquesne freshman guard Chassidy Omogrosso scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting in an overtime victory over the Minutewomen. She followed with nine points and five rebounds against Davidson. For the week, she averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 rebounds … Fordham freshman Lauren Holden averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Rams with wins over GW and UMass … George Washington’s Caira Washington averaged a double-double of 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in road games against Fordham and Richmond. She posted her third double-double in four games with 10 points and 12 rebounds against Fordham, and then followed with 13 points and eight rebounds against the Spiders … UMass freshman Bria Stallworth recorded 21 points, five rebounds and four assists in an overtime loss to Duquesne. For the week, she averaged 15.5 points to lead the Minutewomen … Jamesia Price of Saint Louis had a perfect day shooting (5-of-5 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line) and tied for the team lead in scoring a win over Richmond on Wednesday.
