ROCHESTER, NY – The New York Collegiate Baseball League opens its 2016 season on Saturday, May 28th with a pair of games including a matchup of the past two champions. The 2014 champion Hornell Dodgers will pay an opening night visit to Bradner Stadium to take on the 2015 title winner Olean Oilers. Wellsville’s Nitros will travel to the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex on the Houghton College campus to open the season against the Genesee Rapids also on the first day of action.
Two days later, the Rome Generals will begin their inaugural season when they host the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs at DeLutis Field. The 46-game league schedule concludes on Sunday, July 24th.
Onondaga Community College will host the 2016 NYCBL All-Star Game. The league’s best will meet at Syracuse on, Thursday July 14th for the annual event which includes the Major League Baseball Scout Day and Home Run Derby culminating with the Mid-Summer Classic.
The NYCBL’s divisional format remains intact with the Rochester Ridgemen joining Genesee, Hornell, Olean and Wellsville in the Western Division. The Eastern Division consists of the Cortland Crush, Rome, Sherrill Silversmiths, Syracuse Jr. Chiefs and Syracuse Salt Cats.

The post-season opens on Tuesday, July 26th with a pair of single-elimination games. The Divisional Championship Series follow on Wednesday, July 27th with the League Championship Series slated to start on Saturday, July 30th.
Olean’s Bubba Hollins (St. Petersburg College) earned Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2015 Championship Series, and Isaac Dillard (Gulf Coast CC) garnered MVP honors as the Oilers swept Oneonta, 2-0. Teammate Cole Peterson (St. Bonaventure) took home the Offensive MVP. The championship was the first in Olean’s franchise history.
Caleb Lang (Niagara/Cairn University) earned 2015 NYCBL Player of the Year. Vince Apicella (Carson-Newman/Geneva Red Wings) was named Pitcher of the Year. Kyle Monk (Geneva Twins/Emory) grabbed the honors as the league’s best reliever. Cole Peterson (St. Bonaventure/Olean) took the top defensive honor while Olean’s Bobby Bell was named Manager of the Year.
The NYCBL is part of the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) which oversees the rules and policies of eleven other summer leagues: the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, the California Collegiate, Cape Cod, Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, Florida Collegiate Summer League, Great Lakes Collegiate, Hamptons Collegiate, New England Collegiate, Southern, Sunbelt and the Valley Baseball League. The NYCBL along with these eleven leagues provide a variety of competition levels to help prepare young players for professional baseball.
More than 75 NYCBL alums dotted rosters of Major and Minor League Baseball in 2015 including American League All Star J.D. Martinez (Saratoga ’08) and two-time World Series champion Hunter Pence (Schenectady ’02).
