NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —George Washington senior Jonquel Jones was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Saint Joseph’s freshman Alyssa Monaghan earned the league’s Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday for games played Jan. 4-11.
Jones led GW to a 2-0 week averaging 21.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. She posted a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds while adding four assists and a pair of blocks in GW’s 68-52 win over Rhode Island on Wednesday. Jones connected on 6-of-9 from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line against the Rams. The Freeport, Bahamas, native then notched her 13th double-double in the last 14 games with 23 points and 15 rebounds in GW’s 62-61 victory at Dayton on Sunday. She made 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 1:19 remaining, and she grabbed the rebound on the Flyers’ go-ahead field goal try in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
Monaghan averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game in lifting Saint Joseph’s to a 2-0 week. At UMass on Wednesday, the Drexel Hill, Pa., native handed out five assists and scored nine points in a 62-58 win. She followed with a career day at VCU, scoring 14 points to go with a pair of assists and a rebound in a 66-63 victory. For the week, she was 8-of-15 (.533) from the field and 7-of-10 (.700) from 3-point range.

Duquesne’s Amadea Szamosi averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 14-of-26 (.538) from the field in Duquesne’s two victories over George Mason and Fordham … Freshman Chassidy Omogrosso averaged 9.0 points per game and was 5-of-10 from beyond the arc for the Dukes last week … Fordham freshman Lauren Holden made her first career start at St. Bonaventure and responded with six points, two rebounds and a steal while making 2-of-4 from distance over a then season-high 24 minutes. She followed with a season-high 14 points in a season high 32 minutes against Duquesne … Over two games last week, Charise Wilson averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals. She recorded 15 points – including the 700th of her career – in just her 44th career game in a loss at George Washington. She scored 20 points to lead Rhode Island to its first win at Richmond in 15 games … Mariah Ruff led St. Bonaventure to a 66-41 win over UMass on Sunday by posting a season-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor including 3-of-4 from long range. She also hauled in five rebounds and handed out four assists with a steal in just 28 minutes of action … Leading the Hawks to a 2-0 record on the week, Ciara Andrews was crucial down the stretch for SJU in both victories. Against UMass on Wednesday, Andrews finished with 12 points, including the final two points from the foul line to seal a 62-58 win. Andrews followed with an impressive showing at VCU as she tallied a game-high 20 points, including six in the final minute to lift the Hawks from down four to a 66-63 win … Jackie Kemph scored a career-high 23 points, and tied her season high with three 3-pointers, in the Billikens’ win at VCU. She scored 10 of her 12 points during a 17-0 second-quarter run that put the Billikens in command in their win at Davidson … freshman Jordyn Frantz contributed to both Saint Louis wins, scoring seven points at VCU and eight points at Davidson.
