NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —Duquesne senior April Robinson was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Duquesne freshman Chassidy Omogrosso earned the league’s Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday for games played Dec. 28 – Jan. 3.
Robinson recorded just the third ever triple-double in school history with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in the Dukes’ 89-58 win over Dayton. Earlier in the week against city rival Pittsburgh, she scored 24 points on 9-of-14 (.643) shooting from the field and 4-of-7 (.571) from 3-point range along with five rebounds and five assists. For the week, Robinson averaged 20.5 points on 15-of-27 (.556) shooting, 7.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists and 2.5 steals. This week’s honor marks the third time this season that the Springfield, Va., native has won the award.
Omogrosso averaged 14.0 points per game on 9-of-17 (.529) shooting and was 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc. The freshman from Beaver Falls, Pa., scored 18 pointsin 27 minutes against Pittsburgh on 6-of-8 (.750) shooting. In the conference opener against Dayton, Omogrosso recorded 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. This is the second rookie weekly honor for Omogrosso and the fifth by a Duquesne freshman on the season.

Dayton’s Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova recorded five blocks in Sunday’s game against Duquesne to become UD’s all-time leader in block shots (221) … In Sunday’s A-10 opener, freshman Lauren Cannatelli chipped in a team-high 16 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 afternoon at the line for the Flyers … Fordham’s G’mrice Davis recorded her fourth career double-double when she poured in a career-high 21 points and tied a career high with 10 rebounds in the Rams’ 51-40 victory over Davidson. Fordham has now won four straight Atlantic 10 openers … Kara Wright led George Mason to A-10-opening overtime road win over Saint Louis with 19 points and 8 rebounds … Freshman Chinyere Bell averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over two games last week for the Patriots … Caira Washington led GW to a 3-0 week averaging 12.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She shot an efficient 62.1 percent (18-for-29) from the floor and added five blocks, five steals and two assists. Nearly half (11) of her 23 total rebounds came on the offensive glass … La Salle’s Amy Griffin averaged 23.7 points in a 2-1 week for the Explorers. She was named Tournament MVP of the Hawk Holiday Classic after leading the Explorers to wins over Norfolk State (12/29) and Monmouth (12/30) on the way to the title … FreshmanAdreana Miller averaged 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds and had 15 points and five rebounds in the Hawk Holiday Classic championship win over Monmouth … Cierra Dillard averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals in a split week for the UMass women’s basketball team which defeated UMass Lowell, 84-58, before falling to VCU, 74-66 … Charise Wilson averaged 16.7 points, 5.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game over three games for Rhode Island. She has now scored in double figures in all 13 games this season … Saint Louis’ Jackie Kemph recorded her third double-double (15 points, 12 assists) of the season vs. Bradley and narrowly missed a triple-double (9 points, career-high 9 rebounds, 8 assists) in an overtime loss to George Mason … VCU’s Adaeze Alaeze had 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in VCU’s 74-66 victory over Massachusetts.
