Bonnies wrap up Preseason WNIT
St. Bonaventure defeated Siena in the first round at the Reilly Center on Friday, Nov. 13. The Bonnies won, 57-40, and sophomore Miranda Drummond made her first career start and scored a game-high 15 points. Senior Katie Healy recorded a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Healy’s 13 boards were a game high, and that helped the Bonnies outrebound Siena 42-28.
The win against Siena sent SBU to the second round of the tournament where they took on No. 22 DePaul on Nov. 15. At DePaul, the Bonnies fell 77-54. Senior Nyla Rueter dropped a team-high 14 points. Sophomores Mariah Ruff and Drummond scored 11 each.
The Bonnies went on to play in a consolation game as they traveled to Drexel on Nov. 21 to play the Dragons for the second consecutive year and just the second time in program history. The Dragons were too much for the Bonnies as they fell 58-46. Ruff and Imani Outlaw led the Bonnies with 10 points each.
Scouting Detroit
The Bonnies will continue their regular season schedule as they return home to face the Detroit Titans on Nov. 24.
Detroit comes into the RC 0-3, their most recent loss against No. 8/6 Maryland.
The Titans are coached by Bernard Scott.
Assistant Coach Tiara “T” Johnson scouted Detroit.
“They’re a high ball screen team. What they want is their guards to come off the ball screen and team help long enough where they can kick it and get corner threes or top-of-the-key threes,” Johnson said.
“They play eight [off the bench], so they play three-deep from their bench. They are even, about 20 minutes apiece. He [Scott] has three main players who play plus-30, and he rotates the other five.”
“Defensive side, we have to be active in our gaps, ball pressure to deter their passing, making sure we get into spot on defense so we don’t foul and stay disciplined. That’s very important to us.”
“Offensive side, we have to go forward. We have to be aggressive. Being passive, they play arms-length defense, so being passive and tentative causes us turnovers. So if we’re more aggressive and going forward, we’ll get more scores.”
