ONEONTA, N.Y. — Michael Bunal (Binghamton) scattered five hits over six-plus shutout innings, and the Oneonta Outlaws have taken the first three of a four-game set with a 2-0 victory over the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Damaschke Field, Saturday night.
Making his second start of the season, Bunal struck out seven and walked none as Oneonta (16-14) moved into a third-place tie with the Geneva Red Wings (17-15) in the NYCBL’s Eastern Division.
The right-hander did not allow a runner past second and retired 10 of the last 11 he faced.
Joey Orlando (Binghamton) came on on with two outs and nobody on in the seventh and set down seven of the eight batters he faced for his fifth save of the season.

Oneonta scored all the runs needed in the fourth.
Griffin Barnes (Grand Canyon) worked a base on balls off Matthew Wood (Salve Regina) to start the stanza. Zack Blonder (Maryville) followed with a base hit. Jordan Bradley (Wofford) reached on an error to load the bases. Barnes scored came home on a double play, and Ryan Nelson (Quinnipiac) plated Blonder with a single.
Wood was saddled with the tough-luck loss. The southpaw allowed two unearned runs on four hits and four walks over eight innings. He fanned five.
Blonder finished 2-for-4 for the game.
Phil Madonna (Siena) led Syracuse (19-18) with two hits in four at bats.
Oneonta has won five of seven.
The same two teams switch venues Sunday for a 2 p.m. game at Onondaga Community College.
