ROCHESTER, NY – Rochester Red Wings right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey has been named International League Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Duffey won both his starts during the week including Sunday’s seven-inning complete game shutout of Charlotte, the first of his career. The Rice product scattered nine hits in a league-high 14.1 innings between the two starts and did not allow an earned run while walking two and tying for a league-best 10 strikeouts.
In Monday’s start, Duffey yielded two unearned runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts at Pawtucket before Sunday’s shutout performance on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in a 1-0 Rochester win over the Knights.
Over his last three starts since surrendering seven runs on June 11, the Houston native has tossed 22.1 innings without an earned run.
Duffey is the third Red Wing to earn IL Pitcher of the Week honors joining Pat Dean (April 13-19) and Tommy Milone (May 11-17 and May 18-24).
