OLEAN, N.Y. — Josh Flanders (Crown Coll) turned in a complete game, and the Rochester Ridgemen used a two-out rally in the ninth to defeat the Olean Oilers, 3-2 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Bradner Stadium Tuesday night.
After allowing single runs in the second and third, Flanders locked in and allowed just one baserunner for the last six innings. Flanders struck out one, walked one and retired 17 straight. The right-hander did not allow an extra-base hit on the night.
Drew Farmer (Western Michigan) sparked the decisive rally with a two-out double in the ninth. Farmer moved to third on a passed ball setting up the game-winning base hit from Aaron Vallance (Wayland Baptist).
Vallance singled and eventually scored on a two-out wild pitch as Rochester knotted the game at two in the fifth.
Jonathan Lapolla (Suffolk U) staked Olean to a one-run lead in the second. The Oilers designated hitter brought home Mike Fahrman (U of Florida) with a sacrifice fly.
Olean made it 2-0 in the third. Cole Peterson (St. Bonaventure) reached on a one-out base hit and stole second. Sam Kysor (USC-Upstate) worked a base on balls, and David “Bubba” Hollins came through with his league-leading 18th RBI of the season.
But the Oilers left two runners on base in the inning and did not get another man aboard until the ninth.
Andrew White (University at Buffalo) allowed two runs on five hits over eight innings. The Olean right-hander struck out five and walked three.
Joe Nicolace (Nichols) took the loss.
Rochester improved to 7-11 with the win.
Olean fell to 9-10.
The same two teams will meet Wednesday again at Bradner Stadium.
