ONEONTA, N.Y. — Daniel Lowndes (Siena) capped a decisive eighth as the Sherrill Silversmiths came from behind to defeat the Oneonta Outlaws, 6-4 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Damaschke Field, Saturday night.
Lowndes plated two with a two-out single in a four-run in an inning which the Silversmiths gained the benefit of two errors, a walk and a wild pitch.
Trailing 2-1, Lenny Ortiz (SUNY Oneonta) reached on a fielding miscue to start the frame and gave way to pinch runner Mitch Sloan (Fort Scott CC). Zach Taylor (Haverford) walked. After a wild pitch moved the runners, Connor Bowie (Mt. Aloysius) delivered for the second straight night. Friday’s NYCBL Player of the Night singled to score Sloan.
One out later, Anthony Fanelli (Seton Hill) loaded the sacks with a base hit. Luke Johnson (Bucknell) reached on an error and brought home Taylor for a 3-2 Sherrill edge. Lowndes extended the advantage when he connected on a 3-2 pitch.
Dan Shelton (SUNY Oneonta) tossed one inning out of the bullpen for the win.
Luke Brust (Monroe CC) worked the ninth for his second save in as many nights.
Tyler Mitzel (Neosho CC) started and went 6.2 for the Smitties. The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. Mitzel set down three on punch outs.
Michael Adams (U of Albany) allowed one run on six hits over seven inning for the Outlaws. The right-hander struck out eight and walked one.
Zack Blonder (Maryville) doubled home a run as Oneonta took a 2-1 lead in the seventh.
Oneonta’s Jessey Valdez (Dean College) scored on a wild pitch in the eighth.
Jordan Bradley (Wofford) and Taylor Maxey (Tennessee Tech) reached on back-to-back two-out singles in the bottom of the ninth. Bradley scored when CJ Krowiak (Binghamton) reached on an error. Oneonta brought the winning run to the plate.
Bowie collected two hits in five trips to the plate for Sherrill. Lowndes went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Jake Dyer (Fort Scott CC) added two hits for Sherrill.
Blonder and Bradley finished with two hits apiece for Oneonta.
Sherrill (3-10) hosts the Geneva Red Wings on Sunday. A 5 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Noyes Park.
Oneonta travels to Syracuse to take on the Salt Cats. A 7 p.m. start is slated at Onondaga Community College.
