ONEONTA, N.Y. – A trio of pitchers combined on a two-hitter as the Oneonta Outlaws defeated the Geneva Red Wings, 3-0 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Damaschke Field, Saturday.
Adam Scott (Wofford), Michael Adams (U of Albany) and Joey Orlando (Binghamton) allowed a total of five baserunners as Oneonta moved into second place by percentage points over the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs in the NYCBL’s Eastern Division.
Scott fanned seven and walked three over six innings of work. The 6-3 left-hander, who earned league pitcher-of-the-night honors when he set down 11 on punch outs over seven full in a 6-0 win over Sherrill, took a no-hitter into the sixth.
Adams worked two innings and retired all six batters he faced.
Orlando worked a scoreless ninth for his third save on the season.
An unearned run in the second proved to be all the offense Oneonta would need. With one out, Cody Miller (Wofford) reached when he was hit by a pitch. CJ Krowiak (Binghamton) singled and an error in the outfield allowed the runners to advance. Miller scored from third on a ground ball from Angel Hernandez (Graceland College).
Oneonta added single runs in the seventh and eighth.
Krowiak started the seventh with a single and eventually scored on a Tyler Bruno (Iona) sacrifice fly.
Miller plated Taylor Maxey (Tennessee Tech) with a two-out double in the eighth.
Bruno finished the day 3-for-3. Krowiak and Griffin Barnes (Grand Canyon) both collected two hits in four trips to the plate.
Brandon Humbertson (Salisbury) was saddled with the tough-luck loss. The right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits over seven innings. He struck out one, walked one and fell to 2-1 on the season. He has an ERA of 1.23.
Zach Wingate (Birmingham Southern College) had both Geneva hits.
The Red Wings fell to 4-3 on the season.
Oneonta improved to 5-3.
