George Washington, Dayton and the #A10WBB Weekend Slate

The weekend’s Atlantic 10 WBB results.

St. Joseph’s 67, La Salle 55 –
A combined 41 points from junior Ciara Andrews and graduate student Ashley Robinson guided St. Joe’s to victory in a Big 5 matchup inside Tom Gola Arena. The Explorers struggled offensively, shooting only 35 percent, including 2-7 from three-point range.
#7 St. Joseph’s Tourney Matchup: vs. #10 George Mason – Thursday, 4:30 PM
#11 La Salle’s Tourney Matchup: vs. #14 Davidson – Wednesday, 7:00 PM

Massachusetts 78, Rhode Island 70 –
If there was one shocker in #A10WBB this weekend, it was UMass garnering a huge win at home against Rhody. Kim Pierre-Louis netted 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, becoming only the fifth player in the program history with 500 points in a single-season.

#6 Rhode Island’s Tourney Matchup: vs. Winner of #11 La Salle and #14 Davidson – Thursday, 7:00 PM

Fordham 54, Davidson 46 –
It has not been the best inaugural Atlantic 10 season for the Davidson Wildcats, however, they battled Fordham to the end Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats came storming back from a 13-point halftime deficit, but Fordham would score 12 of games last 14 points; Emily Tapio recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Rams.

#4 Fordham’s Tourney Matchup: vs. Winner of #5 Richmond and #12 St. Bonaventure/#13 UMass – Friday, 2:00 PM
#14 Davidson’s Tourney Matchup: vs. #11 La Salle – Wednesday, 7:00 PM

Richmond 55, VCU 49 –
In a very evenly matched “Battle of Richmond,” the Spiders, led by Genevieve Okoro, were able to hang on for their ninth conference win of the season. Despite the loss, Camille Calhoun was able to post a double-double for the Rams, scoring 10 points and adding 10 rebounds.

#8 VCU’s Tourney Matchup: vs. #9 Saint Louis – Thursday, 11:30 AM

George Washington 80, George Mason 45 –
It is official now, the George Washington Colonials, with a conference record of 15-1, are your 2014-15 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champions. Hannah Schaible led the Colonials with 18 points while Jonquel Jones nearly posted a double-double, totaling 13 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks.

Duquesne 51, St. Bonaventure 43 –
Jose-Ann Johnson, a Duquesne forward, broke a 26-year old record by recording her 62nd block of the season. The Dukes also recorded a new-program record for conference wins in a season with 12.

#12 St. Bonaventure’s Tourney Matchup: vs. #13 UMass – Wednesday, 4:30 PM

Dayton 98, Saint Louis 68 –
Ally Malott and Kelly Austria recorded 17 points apiece in the Flyers blowout victory over the Billikens. For Saint Louis, Sadie Stipanovich scored a game-high 24 points, adding six rebounds.
