ROCHESTER, NY – The New York Collegiate Baseball League opens its 2015 season on Saturday May 30th with a pair of games including the reigning champion Hornell Dodgers traveling to Olean for a battle with the Oilers. Wellsville’s Nitros will host the Genesee Rapids also on the first day of action.
Two days later, the NYCBL will be in full swing with six games in what is sure to be another exciting season. The 46-game schedule concludes on Friday, July 24th.
Damaschke Field will host the 2015 NYCBL All-Star Game. The league’s best will meet at Oneonta on July 16th for the annual event which includes the Major League Baseball Scout Day and Home Run Derby culminating with the Mid-Summer Classic.
The NYCBL’s divisional format remains intact with the Geneva Twins, Niagara Power and Rochester Ridgemen joining Genesee, Hornell, Olean and Wellsville in the Western Division. The Eastern Division lines stays with the Cortland Crush, Geneva Red Wings, Oneonta Outlaws, Sherrill Silversmiths, Syracuse Jr. Chiefs and Syracuse Salt Cats.

The post-season opens on Sunday, July 26th with four best-of-three Divisional Series. The Division Championship Series follow on Wednesday, July 29th with the League Championship Series slated to start on Saturday, August 1st.
Seth Cornell (Houghton) earned Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2014 Championship Series, and Brandon Sandoval (Vanguard) garnered MVP honors as Hornell swept Oneonta, 2-0. The championship was Hornell’s fifth in franchise history. Only the Broome Rangers (6) have won more NYCBL titles.
Kevin Brice (Sherrill/Pomona-Pitzer) earned 2014 NYCBL Player of the Year. Jordan Accetta (Wofford/Hornell) was named Pitcher of the Year. Zach Verner (Niagara) grabbed the honors as the league’s best reliever. Anthony Massicci (Canisius/Syracuse Salt Cats) took the top defensive honor while Hornell’s Tom Kenney was named Manager of the Year.
The NYCBL is part of the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) which oversees the rules and policies of ten different summer leagues: the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, Cape Cod Baseball League, Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, Florida Collegiate Summer League, Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League, Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League, New England Collegiate Baseball League, Southern Collegiate Baseball League, Sunbelt Baseball League, and the Valley Baseball League. These eleven leagues provide a variety of competition levels that help prepare young players for life in professional baseball.
