Counting down to tipoff and previewing the incoming freshmen of the Patriot League with a look at the first-year players of the Colgate Raiders.
The Raiders finished 13-18 (6-12 Patriot League) in 2013-14. Matt Langel and his staff welcome two freshmen to campus: Sean O’Brien and Jordan Robertson.
Sean O’Brien Fr. G 6-2, 188 Lafayette Hill, PA/ Penn Charter
Four-year varsity letterwinner at Penn Charter, where he lettered in basketball and soccer … O’Brien served as the team captain during his junior and senior basketball seasons … In his senior campaign he averaged 19 points, four assists and six rebounds per game … Was a two-time All-League First Team member, while also garnering All-City and All-State Third Team honors … Voted the team MVP as well.
What they’re saying about Sean O’Brien – Allen Rubin/ Hoop Scoop: “He’s a combination guard. A tough kid who plays very hard. He’s a good outside shooter especially in the mid-range and a good ball handler. He’s a very good defender.”
Jay Gomes/ NJHoops.com: “He’s a cerebral guard who understands how to run a team. He makes plays. He’s a solid get.”
Steve Keller/ National Recruiting Report: “He’s a steady off-guard who can make shots.”
Jordan Robertson Fr. G 6-3, 185 Cape May Court House, NJ/ Wildwood Catholic
Four-year varsity letterwinner at Wildwood Catholic, where he served as the team captain for his junior and senior seasons … During his final campaign he averaged 18.5 points and eight rebounds per game … Compiled a total of 1,135 points in his four years … While there, he was named to the First Team C.A.L. squad, Atlantic City Press Player of the Year, Courier Post Player of the Year, Courier Post First Team All-South Jersey, and was honored with Al Carino Basketball Club First Team South Jersey accolade. He was also named the 2013-14 Co-MVP.
What they’re saying about Jordan Robertson – Allen Rubin/ Hoop Scoop: “He’s an athletic wing who gets to the basket really well. He shoots well in the mid-range. His outside shot is improving.”
Jay Gomes/ NJHoops.com: “He had a very good senior year, a kid who kind of blew up. There wasn’t much going on about him prior to that. He has good strength, a good athlete with size. His best basketball is ahead of him. He’s a streaky shooter. When he’s on, he’s effective because he can use his size and strength to get to the rim.”
Steve Keller/ National Recruiting Report: “He is a physical, athletic two-guard who handles well. He doesn’t shoot consistently well, so we will have to see how he gets to the rim at this level.”
