ONEONTA, N.Y. — The Oneonta Outlaws used timely hitting to top the Cortland Crush 10-7 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action, Wednesday night at Damaschke Field.
Both starting pitchers had rough outings for their respective team. Jeremy Roberts (Stonehill College) lasted four and two-thirds innings for the Outlaws. He allowed four runs on six hits and walked three.
Daniel Karasinski (Concordia College) pitched into the seventh for Cortland but allowed 10 runs on eight hits and walked three. He took the loss and fell to 1-3 on the season.
Daniel Ferrell (Santa Ana College) came out of the bullpen to earn the win for Oneonta. He allowed an unearned run on two hits in one inning pitched. Ferrell improved his record to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.08.
Ethan Evanko (Grand Canyon University) pitched two scoreless innings for Oneonta. He allowed only one hit and struck out two.
Yahriel Jimenez (Siena College) pitch the last inning and two-thirds for the Crush. He only surrendered one hit and struck out one.
Adam Smith (SUNY Cortland) hit an RBI single in the top of the first inning to put Cortland on the board early.
The Outlaws responded in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Jones (University of North Georgia) ripped an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game before trotting home on a wild pitch to put Oneonta ahead 2-1.

Wesley Burghardt (SUNY Brockport) put the Crush ahead in the second with a two run double. It was his first of two hits in the game.
“I just tried to hit the ball hard and put it in play,” Burghardt said. “I’ve been holding the bat a little looser and being more aggressive.”
Kody Ruedisili (Wofford College) then tied the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to left field. Ruedisili went 2-4 on the night and raised his season batting average to .302.
Oneonta took the lead in the third inning when Jimmy Hand (Northeastern) pounded an RBI triple and later scored on an error.
An error in the top of the fifth made it a one-run game before Connor Griffin (SUNY Cortland) tied the game with a bloop RBI single to center field. The Crush had the bases loaded with one out before Henry Pelliccioti’s (Broome Community College) attempted suicide squeeze backfired when Oneonta’s catcher, Kyle Brennan (University of Buffalo), caught the ball and threw to third to complete a double play.
Hand drove in his second run of the night with an RBI single in the fifth to put the Outlaws ahead 6-5. Matt Bolger (University of Southern Alabama) gave Oneonta some much needed insurance with a two run double to right center.
“I was just trying to have good approach,” the 5’9 sophomore out of Madison, Alabama said. “He (Karasinski) was throwing a lot of curveballs so I was trying to wait on that and drive it the other way.”
Ramon Osuna Sanchez (College of Charleston) drove in his team-leading 25th RBI with a double to right field in the seventh before scoring on an RBI groundout by Hand.
The Outlaws looked like they were about to cruise to a 10-5 victory before Joel Brophy (Niagara University) hit a two-run double with two outs in the ninth. It was Brophy’s second hit of the ball game.
Jones, Hand, and Ruedisili all had two hits on the night. Ben Mauseth (Grand Canyon University) stole his league leading 31st base of the season.
Hand extended his hitting streak to five games. He is batting .474 (9-19) over that stretch with two triples, eight RBI, and six runs.
“I’ve been getting some good pitched and have been really relaxed at the plate,” Hand said. “I’m sticking to my approach, seeing the ball well, and hopefully it continues on.”
Oneonta coach, Joe Hughes credited the team’s offense for the victory.
“It was kind of an old fashion slugfest where they end up with 10 hits and seven runs. We made five errors,” Hughes said. “Our offense carried us today and we hit the ball extremely well.”
With the win, the Outlaws (22-14) clinch a spot in the NYCBL playoffs and remain only a half game behind the Geneva Red Wings (22-13) for first place in the Eastern Division. The defending champions face off with the Red Wings tomorrow in Geneva.
The Crush fell to 12-25 and will host the Syracuse Salt Cats (18-17) tomorrow in Cortland.
