OLEAN, N.Y. — Mike Fahrman (University of Florida) bolstered a pair of dominant pitching performances as the Olean Oilers swept the Wellsville Nitros (2-0/4-0) in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Bradner Stadium, Tuesday.
Fahrman went a combined 3-6 including two home runs and four RBI. The Olean catcher drilled a two-out, two-run shot in the bottom of the first to give Olean all the runs it needed in the opener. Fahrman’s second round tripper of the summer brought home Ryan Kohlhofer (Defiance).
Frank Rubio (University of Florida) made good on his Gator teammate’s dinger tossing a seven-inning shutout for his fourth win of the season. The right-hander struck out five and walked four in lowering his ERA to 2.65. He allowed two singles and a double.
For an encore, Fahrman went yard again as part of 2-3 performance in the nightcap. He singled and scored on a Ted Dilts (El Camino) double in the first as Olean grabbed a 3-0 lead and coasted from there.
Aaron Grasing (Defiance) hurled a seven-inning one hitter to keep Olean’s fading playoff hopes alive. The right-hander struck out three and walked one. He retired the first six batters he faced and did not allow a runner past second.
Fahrman connected on a two-out solo shot in the third.
Kyle Perez (SUNY Brockport) took the game-one loss. He is 1-7.
Dan Harms (Mansfield) fell to 4-4 with the game two setback.
Dilts went 3-5 with a run scored. He connected on his 11th double of the season.
Sam Kysor (USC Upstate) collected two hits for Olean.
Jordan Wheaton (Alfred State) and Cam Balego (Mercyhurst NE) both doubled for Wellsville.
Olean (12-22) travels to Niagara to take on the Power (18-19). Niagara holds the fourth and final playoff the NYCBL’s Western Division. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Sal Maglie Stadium.
Wellsville (9-26) hosts Rochester (21-16) for a 5 p.m. start.
