ONEONTA, N.Y. — The Oneonta Outlaws jumped all over the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs’ pitching staff Tuesday night for an 11-6 win at Damaschke Field in New York College Baseball League action.
The Outlaws managed 16 hits (seven of those for extra bases) and drew five walks in the outburst. For the second night in a row, every Outlaw player reached base at least once.
Oneonta’s starter, Taylor Hicks (University of Georgia) kept the r.R Chiefs at bay allowing three earned runs and striking out six in five and two-thirds innings pitched. Hicks improved his record to 3-0. He boasts a 1.95 ERA on the season.
Zach Zareva (Manhattanville College) suffered the loss for Syracuse. Zareva allowed six runs on six hits while surrendering three walks. He fell to 1-3 on the year and watched his ERA inflate to 6.50.
Brandon Agar (North Georgia College & St. U) came on late to shut down the Jr. Chiefs. In three and one-third innings of relief pitching, he allowed only one hit. Agar struck out five.
Ramon Osuna Sanchez (College of Charleston) got the ball rolling for Oneonta in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple. Ben Mauseth (Grand Canyon University) scored on the play.
Tyler Martis (Sienna College) knocked a single to left in the second inning to push the Outlaws’ lead to 2-0.
Oneonta scored four runs in the bottom of the third to push the score to 6-0. Osuna Sanchez drove in his second run of the night with a single to left. Kyle Brennan (University of Buffalo) followed it up with an RBI double over the left fielder’s head to make it 4-0. Frank D’Agostino (Temple) drove in a run with his second double of the night. He went 4-5 in the ballgame. Kody Ruedisili (Wofford College) topped it off with a bases loaded walk.
Instead of easing up and conceding the game, Syracuse fought back. Jason Lundy (Fordham University) knocked his second hit of the night to drive in the Jr. Chiefs’ first two runs of the game. He later scored on an RBI groundout. Entering the bottom of the fourth, Syracuse had pulled within three runs 6-3.
D’Agostino drove in another run in the bottom of the inning with a single that deflected off the third base bag to put Oneonta back in the driver’s seat.
Taylor Jones (University of North Georgia) hit an RBI double to right field in the bottom of the fifth to add another insurance run for the Outlaws. He came around to score on another RBI double by Brennan following a sacrifice fly by Mauseth.

The Jr. Chiefs continued to fight in the top of the sixth. Luke Emling (Villanova) earned a bases loaded walk before an error and bases loaded hit-by-pitch brought Syracuse within four. The Outlaws led 10-6.
D’Agostino padded his stats in the eighth inning. He made a sliding catch in the left-center field gap to rob Matt Kuzock (Fordham University) of a base hit. Then he drove in his third run of the game in the bottom of the inning after Brennan tripled in the gap.
“I did less at the plate,” D’Agostino said, “I’ve been trying to do too much lately. Hopefully this gets me rolling.”
Brennan finished the night going 3-5 with a triple, two doubles, driving in two, and scoring two. He also threw out an attempted base stealer and blocked multiple pitches in the dirt.
He said he learned from his outing against Hornell Dodger’s lefty Zach Krivda on Sunday.
“This time, I just stayed back on the ball and listened to coach and it worked out,” Brennan said on his breakout performance. All six of his hits this year have gone for extra bases (one home run, two triples, and three doubles).
Oneonta (9-7) and Syracuse (7-13) face each other again tomorrow in Syracuse. They will return to Damaschke Field on Thursday in the final game of the three game series.
Syracuse pitching coach, Joe Riley hopes his team can turn it around tomorrow.
“We thought we saw some really good pitching today. I don’t know if they’ll be able to duplicate it,” Riley said. “We’ll try to be a little better on the mound tomorrow.”
