WELLSVILLE, N.Y. — Thursday night, Connor Hamilton (Cedarville) dealt a complete game, four-hit shutout against the Wellsville Nitros at Basket Road Field as the Ridgemen went on to win 8-0. Fast forward one night, switch the setting to Wellsville, and the same thing happened again, as this time Dustin King (Hannibal-LaGrange) pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout as Rochester went on to win 5-0 at Wellsville Central in an New York Collegiate Baseball League Western Division matchup.
The Ridgemen have now won three in a row, rebounding nicely from their four-game losing streak to improve to 8-6 on the season.
The second inning was again the inning of death for Wellsville, as Rochester put up a trio of runs to jump out early.
Shane Soria (Glendale CC) started it with an RBI double, scoring Alex Mumm (Judson). Soria’s hitting streak has been extended to now six games and he has gotten a hit in nine of the ten games he has appeared in.
Matt Emge (Pittsburgh) also got an RBI for the second straight night, as he roped a bases loaded single, scoring Larry Vidaurre (Nyack) to make it 2-0 Ridgemen.
Soria then scored the final run of the inning when he crossed the plate on Ethan Luna’s (Southwestern) fielder’s choice.
King got hot in the middle innings, retiring ten Wellsville batters in a row, and holding the final 14 batters he faced hitless. This horrid stretch for the Nitros continues, as they have now lost nine of their last ten games, outscored by a total of 67-16. Their record now stands at 4-12.
The Ridgemen were able to add more insurance to their lead in the fourth and fifth. In the fourth, it was Emge scoring Vidaurre again, this time via an RBI groundout, making it 4-0. This was the fourth multi-RBI game for Emge on the season.
Holt Davis (UAB) scored in the fifth by way of an error on Nitros catcher Christ Conley (Canisius), finishing the scoring at 5-0.
Chase Burrow (Mary Hardin-Baylor) also went a perfect 3-for-3 for the first time this season and Mumm added a pair of hits for his fourth multi-hit game of the year.
King improves to 2-0 on the season and has walked one or less batters in all five of his appearances this season.
Same two teams Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. but this time, up at the Basket as Rochester looks to make it four in a row.
