Twins take game three with 11-9 win over Power

Niagara Falls, NY– Sean Feeney (Wilmington) connected on a two-run home run, and the Geneva Twins went on to defeat the Niagara Power, 11-9 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Sal Maglie Stadium, Thursday night.

The Twins took a commanding 6-0 lead in the top half of the first highlighted  by Feeney’s blast over the right field fence. Geneva took two of a three-game set at Niagara.

The very next inning Niagara’s Ivan Acuna (Catawba Valley CC) and Jack Trotman (UMass-Lowell) scored on a Cory Teachout (Ashland) wild pitch cutting the lead to 6-2.

Niagara then tied the game at seven in the fifth inning, but then allowed the Twins to score four more runs after two and a half innings.

It was here in the bottom of the ninth inning where the Power almost pulled of the comeback.

Gabriel Sevigny (Olivet Nazarene) walked to start the inning, took second on a wild pitch by the relief pitcher Kevin Berge (St. John Fisher), and moved to third on a balk.  Acuna walked, and  Trotman hit an RBI double that scored Sevigny trimming the lead to 11-8.

Robert Winemiller (Case Western Reserve) came out of the bullpen and got a ground ball from Hunter Bingham (William Jewell College) which scored Ivan Acuna from third.

Winemiller retired the side to end the contest.

Berge picked up the win. Daniel Twitty (St. Leo) took the loss on the hill.  Winemiler earned the save for the Twins.

Berge pitched three innings allowing three hits and four runs.

Twitty pitched two innings allowing two hits and three runs.

Power coach Josh Rebrandt said that the game was a tough one to lose.  He also stated that they break down their season in quarters and being sixteen games into the season, he said they achieved the goal of being above .500 with a 9-7 record.

Geneva’s  Mike Annone (Wilmington) led the way with four hits and three RBI.  

Trotman paced the Power with three hits and an RBI.

Geneva (9-7) heads to Olean to take on the Oilers (3-10). First pitch at Bradner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Niagara gets the weekend before heading to Geneva on Monday for a rematch with the Twins. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
