ROCHESTER, NY – Two teams making a run at the top of the New York Collegiate Baseball League and this week’s award winners played prominent roles.
Wellsville’s Alec Bahnick (Bellarmine) grabbed the NYCBL Hitter of the Week honor while Oneonta’s Malcolm Purdy (Grand Canyon) got the nod for Pitcher of the Week.
Bahnick hit .545 for the week notching eighteen hits in thirty-three trips to the plate. The sophomore from Owensboro, KY also walked four times, scored twelve runs, drove in seven more, and stole six bases. He is batting .354 on the season, good for fifth in the NYCBL. The Nitros have three games left to secure a playoff spot. Wellsville (20-17) went 6-2 for the week and has won seven of their last ten. The Nitros are tied with the Syracuse Salt Cats for fifth in the NYCBL.
Purdy went 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA in three appearances for the week. The right-hander struck out ten and walked four as the Outlaws climbed to the NYCBL’s top spot for the first time this season. He is 4-3 on the season with an ERA of 3.18. Oneonta (23-15) control its own destiny atop the standings. Wins in their remaining two games give the Outlaws the regular season title.
