HORNELL, NY — Dylan Dunn (Hagerstown CC) delivered a single past a drawn in infield to lift the Hornell Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Olean Oilers in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Maple City Park. The Dodgers improve to 17-15 on the year, and the Oilers are now 19-9.
The Oilers got on the board in the first inning when Joe Chittester (Brewton Parker) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Bradley Smith (Bloomsburg) who had opened up the game with a single.
Hornell tied it up in the third when Anthony Renz (Mansfield) singled home Jake Kenney (Genesee CC) who had reached on a fielding error to lead off the inning.
The Dodgers took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. Steven Goldstein (Stony Brook) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Spencer Scorza (Monroe CC). Scorza came around to score when Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher) grounded out.
Olean bounced right back and tied the game in the fifth. Tim Ravel (Bloomsburg) hit a sac fly to plate Casey Gibson (Nova Southeastern) and then Mike Fahrman (University of Florida) collected a two-out single to tie the game two batters later.
Both teams had chances but neither could score until the bottom of the ninth. Sean McCracken (Southern Nevada) singled to lead off the inning. Aaron Haag (Southeast Louisiana) stepped up next and hit a single to right. Both McCracken and Haag moved up a base after a fielding error in right field. Olean decided to walk Renz intentionally setting the stage for Dunn. With the centerfielder brought in to the infield, Dunn hit the first pitch he saw past a diving third baseman to score McCracken with the winning run.
Renz was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Goldstein was 2-for-4. Haag finished 2-for-5. Jeff Beall (Urbana) earned the victory with three innings of one-hit relief. He walked one and struck out one to improve to 2-1 on the year. Chris Jansen (St. Joseph’s – IN) did not factor in the decision but pitched six solid innings. He allowed seven hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out three.
Fahrman was the lone Oiler with multiple hits finishing 2-for-4. Dalton Scarborough started and pitched six innings. He allowed five hits, two earned runs, and walked three while striking out three.
Olean travels to Wellsville for a 5 p.m. battle with the Nitros.
The Dodgers host the Elmira Pioneers of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League on Monday evening in an exhibition game. First pitch is at 7 p.m. at Maple City Park.
