Former Red Wing Chaplin hoping to turn heads in Ogden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After getting a very brief taste of pro baseball last summer, Division III Haverford College product Jake Chaplin is looking to get a more extended look this year as he suits up for the Ogden (Utah) Raptors, the Rookie Pioneer League affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“It’s a great place to play,” Chaplin tells KYW Newsradio. “It’s always an honor to represent the Dodgers’ organization. It’s especially an honor to do so in Ogden where the fans are so passionate for us. It’s really a blast.”
A left-handed hitting first-baseman, Chaplin signed on as a rookie free agent with the Los Angeles organization in late August of last year. He was assigned to the Dodgers’ Rookie Arizona League affiliate where he only got in one game before the campaign ended.
“I didn’t get much (playing time), so I figured they’d bring me back and give me a shot to prove myself (in 2013),” Chaplin says. “With that being the goal, the off-season was tough, I pushed myself hard, had a lot of fun doing it, and got myself ready to give this a run and I have been.”

Brown (Glens Falls ’09) having bash since return from injury
Growing up in Texas, Andrew Brown said he was always the biggest kid on his baseball team.
“Big as in fat,” the 51s outfielder said. “I was the chubby kid who could hit and played everywhere.
“I’ll play wherever. I don’t care, as long as I get a chance to hit. That’s all I want to do.”
At 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, the 28-year-old Brown no longer is the biggest guy on his team, but he can still hit.
Brown leads the 51s with a .352 batting average and six triples, and he also has seven home runs, 40 RBIs and 36 runs in 38 games. On Saturday at Cashman Field, he hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the fifth inning and had two RBIs in the 51s’ 11-5 win over Colorado Springs.
