The comings and goings of players past, present and maybe future of the New York Collegiate Baseball League mixed with tweets and videos.
Weber (Alfred ’04) flirts with no-no
Once a player gets a taste of the Major Leagues, he obviously tries to stay there. But if you wind up being one of the guys who shuttles back and forth to the Minors, the only clear way to keep getting chances in the bigs is to dominate at Triple-A.
Thad Weber, who’s already had a couple of cups of coffee this year, took care of that second part on Saturday night.
The veteran right-hander pitched seven hitless innings, striking out eight batters and walking just one, as Triple-A Buffalo held on for a 2-1 victory at Pawtucket.
“Anytime I have success, whether it’s this good or any other time, I think it’s due to me having a good mix and throwing strikes early in the count. And that was the case tonight,” Weber said. “It’s a lot of fun [to pitch like that] in a tight ballgame, especially, where you really need the win. That’s what you’re out there for, competing at its best. So it was a good night and a good team win.”
Beloit Bo-Sticks it to Clinton to grab first place
BELOIT, WI – Christopher Bostick (Webster ’11) drilled a pair of two-run homers as the Beloit Snappers trounced the Clinton LumberKings, 10-3 , at Pohlman Field on Saturday night in Midwest League action as 1562 looked on.
Beloit now holds sole possession of first place as they lead the Western Division with a 42-27 record. Clinton’s record is now 33-35.
The game was scoreless for the first four innings as starters Austin House and Anthony Vasquez dueled to a draw. The LumberKings broke through in the fifth after putting men on second and third with nobody out. A sacrifice fly by Ketel Marte (1-3, RBI) broke the ice and a wild pitch by House allowed in another run to make the score 2-0.

A St. Paul South-Paw This put Caleb Thielbar (Little Falls ’07) in a tight spot. Although added to the forty man roster in November, this wasn’t going to be an easy battle.

Twins sign Eppley to minor league contract
In terms of the Minnesota Twins, the signing of minor league journeyman Cody Eppley isn’t likely to make many waves. The 27-year old right-hander was a 43rd-round selection by the Rangers in 2008, reached Triple-A by 2010 and made ten relief appearances for Texas in 2011.
Luke Maile extends hitting streak
Former Covington Catholic High School and UK catcher Luke Maile (Amsterdam ’10) extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-for-5 performance for the Hot Rods. He doubled and drove in one run in the game.
