OLEAN, NY — Brandon Valentin (Nova Southeastern) tossed seven innings for his first win of the season as the Olean Oilers came from behind to defeat the Wellsville Nitros, 8-4 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Olean High School.
Valentin allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits. The left-hander struck out one and walked none for the win.
Tim Ravel (Bloomsburg) sparked a four-run fourth as the Oilers erased a one-run deficit.
Ravel singled with one out and bases loaded to bring home Lee Grosscup (Mt. Union) and Casey Gibson.
One out later, Mike Fahrman (Florida) reached on one of three Wellsville errors for the night, and Kyle Mann (California U of Penn) came home. Joe Chittester (Brewton Parker) singled home Ravel for a 7-4 Olean lead.
Kevin Herren (Bellarmine) took the loss. The lefty surrendered seven runs (two earned) on four hits with four walks and three strike outs.
Wellsville scored a pair of runs each in the first and fourth.
Shane Barley (St. John Fisher) connected on his third home run of the season – a two-run job scoring Thaddeus Johnson (St. Bonaventure).
Cameron Friess (Texas St. U) doubled home Clint Scarborough (Wabash) in the fourth. Friess advanced on a wild pitch and scored on an Alec Bahnick (Bellarmine) RBI ground out.
After starting the season with back-to-back wins, the game was the first in seven days for the Nitros.
Wellsville (2-1) travels to Rochester to play the Ridgemen (1-3) Thursday night. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Basket Road Field.
Olean heads to Geneva for a tilt with the Red Wings. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
