RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan senior guard George Beamon (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) has been named MAAC Player of the Week after averaging 24 points and 5.5 rebounds in the Jaspers’ contests last week against Hofstra and Dayton. Beamon shot a sweltering 64.0% (16-25) from the field and 81.3% (13-16) at the free-throw line, making a seamless transition back into the starting lineup after missing the Jaspers’ first two contests with an injury.

The Roslyn, N.Y., native grabbed seven rebounds while shooting 10-for-15 (66.7%) from the field and 7-for-10 (70%) at the free-throw line against the Pride. It was his 19th career 20+ point performance.
Beamon continued his superb play on Saturday when the Jaspers visited Atlantic 10 power Dayton, the squad’s third consecutive road game at a 2012 postseason participant. He delivered his 50th straight double-digit scoring performance, finishing with a team-high 19 points. Beamon shot 6-for-10 (60%) from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. He grabbed four rebounds, handed out three assists and made three steals against the Flyers.
Beamon and the Jaspers play two games this week against Atlantic 10 opponents. Manhattan travels to Fordham on Thursday for the 105th “Battle of the Bronx” at 7:30 p.m., which will be televised live on the YES Network. The Jaspers participate in the 18th Annual BB&T Classic on Sunday when they take on George Washington at the Verizon Center at 12:15 p.m., which airs locally on MSG+.
