UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. — Head coach Michael Shafer announced the signing of three freshmen to the 2013 class.
Dazia Hall, a 5’11 guard/forward from Potomac, Md., joins the Spiders after playing for Bullis High School and Fairfax Stars AAU team, coached by Aggie McCormick.
“Dazia is a versatile athlete who can play several positions,” said Shafer. “She will come in and immediately be able to defend small forwards and guards. She can drive well and she knows how to win as she played for the Bullis School and the Fairfax Stars.”
Hall has been a starter on her high school team since her freshman year and was named a team captain her junior season. Hall was named a DC Metro third team All-Star selection by gameday magazine, and led her high school team to a second-place finish in the ISL Conference her sophomore and junior years. Hall was also named a two-time Real Basketball Report DMV 2013 Top 50 pick and was named the ‘Next Sports Phenom’ by the DC Metro as a junior.
The next signee, Olivia Healy, is a 5’11 guard/forward and hails from Reading, Mass. Healy is a three-time Daily Times Chronicle Player of the Year and a three-time League All-Star. Healy was a two-time Middlesex League MVP and a two-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic Dream Team.
“Liv is a competitor,” said head coach Michael Shafer. “She led her team to its first state title and undefeated season. She can score many ways and she finds a way to win. She is a good size guard who is physical and relentless. Liv is also an excellent student and will add to a truly classy group of young ladies representing Richmond.”
Healy is also a two-time Boston Herald All-Scholastic Dream team honoree and led her team to an undefeated season and her high school’s first-ever State Championship her junior campaign. Healy is currently the all-time leading scorer at Reading Memorial High School with 1,232 points. Healy averaged 20.9 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 5.0 apg and 4.0 spg her junior year. Healy plays for Scott Hazelton of the MA Rivals AAU team.
Richmond’s final signee is Janelle Hubbard from Glenn Dale, Md. Hubbard is a 5’8 guard that attends Elizabeth Seton High School. Hubbard was a WCAC All-Conference first team selection and an All-Metro Honorable Mention.
“Janelle is a point guard who can score and defend,” said Shafer. “She comes from winning programs in both high school and AAU. She has good athletic ability and can create for herself and others. We are excitedabout Janelle joining our program next year.”
Hubbard also was named to the All-County Prince GeorgeCountry first team and was a DC Sportsfan Impact Player selection. Hubbard was also named to the DC Sportsfan All-Junior team and was a Bullis Holiday Classic MVP. As a sophomore, Hubbard was a WCAC All-Conference honorable mention and averaged 17.2 ppg as a junior. Hubbard plays for the Maryland Terps AAU team, coached by Robert Hildreth.
Hall, Healy and Hubbard will join the Spiders in the fall of 2013.
