PHILADELPHIA – For the second time in five years the Temple men’s basketball team will take part in the Charleston Classic. The Owls are one of the six teams announced today in the eight-team 2013 Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant, to be held next November, at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
Joining Temple in the field of the sixth annual event will be UAB, Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska and New Mexico. A seventh and eighth team will be announced later.
The 2013 Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant will feature a bracket format with 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship game on the final day of competition.
The Southern Conference (SoCon) will again serve as the event’s sponsoring conference, making its sixth straight year.
Past winners of the Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant are Northwestern, Georgetown, Miami (Fla.) and Clemson.
Temple competed in the Inaugural Classic in 2008, defeating East Tennessee State (79-65) and College of Charleston (70-65) before falling to Clemson (76-72) in the title game.
This family-friendly tournament offers the teams a week of practice, play and experiences in and around historic Charleston.
