UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Darien Brothers scored 19 points as Richmond improved to 3-0 with a 68-58 victory over Hampton in the Nation of Coaches Classic Thursday in the Robins Center.
The Spiders led by as many as 18 as they got off to their first 3-0 start since 2006-07 and the 21st 3-0 start in 100 seasons of Richmond basketball.
Richmond has an average margin of victory of 31.7 points through the three wins, the second highest average margin of victory through the first three games in school history.
Brothers made 5-of-11 field goals and 8-of-10 rebounds as he continued his hot start to the season. The Richmond native is averaging 19.7 points per game, shooting 59.4 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from three.
Sophomore Kendall Anthony scored 11 points, making 5-of-9 field goals and junior Cedrick Lindsay scored 10 points.
Junior Derrick Williams scored eight points and Alonzo Nelson-Ododa and Greg Robbins each had six points and five rebounds
The Spiders will hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday, when the team heads north to face the Minnesota Gophers. Tip-off at Williams Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
NOTES: This was Richmond’s fourth-straight victory over Hampton … the Spiders improved to 43-8 in its last 50 home games and to 30-4 in its last 34 home non-conference contests…Richmond improved to 13-1 in regular-season tournaments over the last four seasons…the Spiders have held all three opponents under 60 points.
