St. Joe’s will take on Notre Dame in the first round of this weekend’s Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Friday night following Florida State vs. BYU (7 p.m.). Consolation and championship games follow on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
Since 1993, the Coaches vs. Cancer program has helped raise nearly $80 million to support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
Staten Island is represented by Halil Kanasevic (Curtis ’09), now a junior at St. Joseph’s; he will be making his closest trip to home this year on Friday and Saturday when the Hawks compete in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Ronald Roberts, Jr. (by way of St. Peter’s Prep and Bayonne) represents New Jersey. Brooklyn’s Christopher Coyne, a walk-on guard to the squad, returns to his home borough. In high school, he averaged 16 points per game as a senior at Xavier High School, and earned All-Manhattan Second Team honors.
