WEBSTER, N.Y. — Garrett Gooding (Point LomaNazarene) hurled a complete game, and Joel Belk (Azusa Pacific) paced a 16-hit attack as the Lake Ontario Ridgemen downed the Wellsville Nitros, 9-3 in an error-plagued New York Collegiate Baseball League game at Basket Road Field, Monday night.
Belk connected in the first on his fifth home run and capped a four-run second with an RBI single in a game where the Ridgemen never trailed.
Matt Brynildsen (Concordia) got the Ridgemen started in the second with a one-out base hit. Jonathan Burkhardt (East Texas Baptist) followed with a triple. After Kolbe Andrade (St. Petersburg) reached on an infield single, Frank Dreslinski (Rend Lake) brought home Burkhardt with a ground out. Andrade came around to score when an error was committed on the play.
Brynildsen doubled and scored in a three-run fifth.
Gooding struck out nine, walked four and surrendered eight hits for his second win of the season. He struck out six and walked three over six innings for the win on July ninth when Lake Ontario downed Niagara, 6-5.
Belk finished three-of-four with two runs scored. Andrade, Brynildsen and Dreslinski all collected two hits along with Nick Flanagan (Martin Methodist) and Zach Gilcrease (USF).
Wellsville scored three in the ninth. Riley Goulding (Texas Pan American) singled with the bases loaded to score Chandler Sidwell (Concordia). Nicholas Gill (St. Leo) and Jason Webb (Texas Pan American) also scored on the play.
The Ridgemen (12-23) host Olean (22-16), Tuesday night at Basket Road. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
