GENEVA, N.Y. — Nate Harris (Univ. of Dayton) fashioned his second consecutive solid start, and the Geneva Twins got all the runs needed in the first inning to defeat the Lake Ontario Ridgemen, 8-1 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at McDonough Park, Saturday.
Harris struck out five, walked one and allowed seven hits and one run over six innings for his second win of the season. His lone mistake came in the third when he allowed a solo home run to Zachary Gilcrease (USF).
Stephen Joe (Copiah-Lincoln CC) singled and plated Brandon Martinez (Kutztown) and Nick Kranick (Flagler) with one out in the first as the Twins jumped on Ridgemen starter, Asa Johnson (St. Bonaventure). Dillon Hamlin (Seton Hall) tripled and drove home Joe for the 3-0 advantage.
Geneva sent 11 to the plate and scored five in the eighth. Martinez singled and scored Cody Walker (Chattahoochee Valley CC) and Connor Lorenzo (SUNY Fredonia). Brent Poulin (Cuesta) brought home Luke Stewart (Broward CC) and Martinez.
Three Geneva relievers put zeroes on the board in the final three frames. Doug Beath (Oakland) struck out one in a scoreless seventh. Alex Juday (Owens CC) and Joe retired the side in order in the eighth and ninth.
Joe and Kranick each had three hits.
Josh Davis (Whitworth) had three hits for Lake Ontario.
Harris got a no-decision last Saturday when he allowed one run over seven innings. Earlier this season, Harris came out of the bullpen and earned save in both ends of a doubleheader.
Geneva’s magic number is one for clinching the playoffs.
The Twins host a doubleheader, Sunday against the red-hot Niagara Power. Geneva sends Justin Ratte (Flagler) to the mound to face Frank Grandinette (Miami) in game one. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Matt Jimenez (Mercyhurst) will get the ball for the Twins in the night cap. Jimenez will face Jonathan Knapp (Olivet Nazarene).
