BOONVILLE, N.Y. — The Geneva Red Wings and Adirondack Trail Blazers combined for total of 17 runs in the first five innings of Tuesday night’s game at the Robert Smith Sports Complex.
The two teams combined for zero runs in the final four frames.
In a tale of two games, Lucas Scocchia (Oakland) finished what Phil Rosenblum (Villanova) started as the Red Wings defeated the Trail Blazers, 9-8 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action.
Rosenblum’s three-run bomb in the top of the first gave the red Wings a lead the never surrendered.
Leon Stimpson (Alvernia) and Robbie Enslen started the game with consecutive hits and came around to score on Rosenblum’s sixth round-tripper of the year.
Geneva used the long ball to add to their lead in the third. Stimpson led with a solo shot. Chris Ray (Alvernia), Rosenblum and Brad Blumer (Cameron) loaded the bases, and Ricky Moses II (Southern U) obliged with a grand slam, and Geneva led 8-2.
Blumer scored in the sixth on a Lukas Sokol (Toledo) single, and the Red Wings had their total for the night.
Adirondack came back in the bottom half of the inning.
The first four Trail Blazers reached with James Anderson (Harding) singling and plating Colton Campbell (Rogers St.) and Kenny May (Lincoln U). Bobby McLaughlin (Alderson-Broaddus) brought home Anderson, and Eric Baker (Rogers St.) delivered McLaughlin.
But that was all the runs either teams would get.
Scocchia faced two over the minimum for the final four innings to earn the save.
Chris Murphy (Texas Christian) worked one inning for the win.
Four Red Wings had two hits apiece.
Baker led all with three.
Sean Badger (Mohawk Valley CC) took the loss.
Geneva (9-13) hosts the Utica Brewers (14-11) Thursday night at McDonough Park.
Adirondack (12-10) travels to Syracuse to take on the first place Jr. Chiefs (15-4). First pitch at Gilette Road is set for 5 p.m. Thursday evening.
