GENEVA, N.Y. — Justin Ratte (Flagler) allowed one run over six innings, and his offense got all that was necessary in the sixth as the Geneva Twins defeated the Niagara Power, 3-2 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at McDonough Park, Sunday afternoon.
Ratte struck out four, walked two, and surrendered four hits for his third win of the season. The right-hander threw 80 pitches on the afternoon, 52 for strikes.
The Twins took advantage of one error and two hit batsmen to score all three of their runs with two outs in the sixth. Connor Lorenzo (SUNY Fredonia) led the frame with a base hit. Two outs later, Luke Stewart (Broward) reached after being hit by a pitch. Michael Allen (Davenport) loaded the bases when he wore pitch of his own. Cody Walker (Chattahoochee Valley CC) followed with a single to plate Lorenzo. Stewart came home when an error was committed in center field.
Carter Bumgardner (Bucknell) brought home Allen with the third and final run of the inning, and Geneva led 3-1.
Niagara cut the lead in half in the eighth. Alex Lagos (Bryant) started the frame with a walk. After stealing second, Lagos moved to third on a ground ball by Ryan Kiesel (Trinity Christian). Lagos scored on Nicholas Linne (Northwestern) ground out.
Lagos singled and scored in the third.
Stephen Joe (Copiah-Lincoln CC) worked a scoreless ninth for his second save in as many days.
Ratte has limited opponents to two or less runs in four of his five starts. The Miami, Florida native has pitched a total 24 innings in those four starts.
Geneva hosts Wellsville, Monday night. First pitch at the “Big Mac” is set for 7 p.m.
Niagara travels to Hornell for a day-night double-header with Western Division-leading Dodgers.
The two teams meet in Niagara Falls on Tuesday.
