WEBSTER, N.Y. — Nick Flanagan (Martin Methodist) and Trevor Keele (U. of Dallas) collected three hits apiece as the Rochester Athletes in Action overcame a three-run deficit to defeat the Geneva Twins, 6-4 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Basket Road Field, Friday night.
Flanagan homered to lead the fifth, and Keele singled and scored as Rochester tied Geneva 3-3. Keele singled with one out and moved to third on a Matt Brynildsen (Concordia) base hit. Frank Dreslinski (Rend Lake) followed with an RBI double.
Rochester took the lead in its next at bat. Jordan Doherty (Mt. Vernon Nazarene) greeted Geneva reliever, Zach Connelly (U. of Tampa), with a base hit. Joel Belk (Azusa Pacific) put runners on second and third with a double. Connelly hit Flanagan with a pitch and followed with a bases-loaded walk to Josh Davis (Whitworth) and Rochester had its first lead of the night.
Max Townley (U. of Ozarks) replaced Connelly on the mound, but the change made no difference. Keele plated Belk with a base hit. Dreslinski worked a bases-loaded walk to cap the scoring, and Rochester led 6-3.
Geneva brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth. Michael Allen (Davenport) led with a ground rule double. Two outs later, Adam Dickinson (Westmont) reached on an infield single. Allen eventually scored, but Geneva failed to capitalize.
Zac Goodno (Indian River State) got the win in relief striking out six and walking three in six innings of work.
Davis Patrick (N.Georgia Coll and St. U.) worked a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.
Flanagan finished with three hits, three runs scored and one RBI.
Belk went two-for-five with one run scored. The Rancho Cucamonga, CA native is hitting .354 (17-for-48) along with going 2-1 on the mound.
Allen, Dickinson and Luke Stewart each had two hits for the Twins.
The teams switch venues Saturday as Rochester (6-13) travels to McDonough Park. Garrett Gooding (Point Loma Nazarene) gets the start for Rochester. Nate Harris (Univ. of Dayton) goes for Geneva (9-13). First pitch at the “Big Mac” is scheduled for 3 p.m.
