UTICA, N.Y. — Stephen Dezzi (U. of Tampa) connected on a three-run home run as the Utica Brewers erased a five-run deficit en route to a 7-6 victory over the Sherrill Silversmiths in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Donovan Stadium, Friday night.
Dezzi’s blast highlighted a four-run seventh, and Blaine Tanner (Three Rivers CC) capped the comeback as the Brew Crew took advantage of a rare opportunity to gain ground in the NYCBL’s Eastern Division.
Down two, Jess Pintado (Miami Dade) led the seventh with a single. After a wild pitch, Pintado came around to score on a pair of groundouts to the right side of the infield.
Steve Negron (Miami Dade) and Eros Modena (Indian River St.) restarted the rally with two outs working back-to-back walks. Dezzi followed and gave the Brewers their first lead of the night, 6-5.
The lead was short-lived as Sherrill answered in its next at bat. Brad Kaczka (Monroe CC) led with a single and moved 90 feet on a ground ball. Byron Campbell (Maryland Eastern Shore) delivered a base hit, and Kaczka came around to score the tying run.
Utica reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the stanza. Tanner tripled with one out, and Pintado grounded to the right side for the winning run.
Tyler Murphy (Southeastern U.) tossed an inning and a third of relief for the win.
