BOONVILLE, N. Y. — Cody Campbell (Rogers St.) went four-for-four, and the Adirondack Trail Blazers erased a three-run deficit in the sixth inning to defeat the Geneva Red Wings, 6-5 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at the Robert Smith Sports Complex.
Campbell’s two-run home run in the sixth keyed the comeback as the Trail Blazers kept pace in the NYCBL Eastern Division. Alex Simone (West Alabama) led the frame with a double and moved to third on a ground ball. Chase Matheson (McHenry County Coll) plated the first run of the inning with a single. Matheson stole second, but it didn’t matter as Campbell’s blast tied the game at four.
Adirondack scored two in the seventh to take the lead for good. Colton Campbell (Rogers St.) delivered a two-out single scoring Simone and Kevin Hix (Youngstown St.) for the advantage.
Dylan Griswold (Williams Coll) worked seven innings for his first win of the season.
Ryan Krokos (Youngstown St.) worked an inning and a third of shutout ball.
Geneva scored three in the fifth for a short-lived lead. Brad Blumer (Cameron U) connected with a bases-loaded double to bring home Jesse Puscheck (Canisius) and Chris Ray (Alvernia). Phil Rosenblum (Villanova) scored before the end of the stanza, but the Red Wings could not hold the lead.
Jeff Croteau (Bentley U) took the loss, his second of the season. The right-hander allowed six earned runs on 10 hits. Croteau is 1-2.
Simone had two hits in four trips with two runs scored.
Blumer went three-for-five with two RBI.
Matt Mayo (Mars Hill) and Cameron Stimpson (Monroe CC) added two hits apiece for Geneva.
The Red Wings (6-10) will host Utica (10-10) Thursday night at McDonough Park. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled.
Adirondack (12-7) gets a night off before hosting the Syracuse Salt Cats (5-13) Friday night.
